How to edit a PDF

1. Drop your PDF into the box above (or click to browse).
2. Click any existing text to edit it in place, or click + Add text and then click the page to place a new text box.
3. Rotate a page with the ⟲ ⟳ buttons in its corner, or scale the whole document with the page-size menu.
4. Click Export PDF and download the result.

How in-browser PDF editing works

PDFs don't store paragraphs the way a word processor does — every letter is placed at a fixed position on the page, and there's no reflowable "text box" to type into. So when you edit a line here, localdobe deletes the original letters from the page entirely and writes your new text in their place, in a font chosen to match the original as closely as possible. Because the old text is actually removed rather than painted over, it won't show up if someone selects, copies, or searches the text of the exported PDF.

In a small number of cases — scanned pages, flattened text, or unusual PDF structure — the original text can't be safely identified and removed on its own, so localdobe falls back to covering it with a solid rectangle instead, the way earlier versions of this tool always worked. When that happens on export, you'll see a note telling you how many edits used the fallback.

This approach shines for the edits people actually need most: fixing a typo, updating a date or a name, filling in a blank on a form, or swapping one line of text for another. It's less suited to rewriting whole paragraphs — surrounding text won't reflow around your edit. For that kind of heavy restructuring, you'd want the original source file and a word processor.
